Smile for Tinashe Muza
– Founder of Dynamic Choreography and yoga teacher for AfriKera Arts Trust.
“I aim to take unengaged youths out of the streets using performing arts as a social tool for positive change. In the high density of Mbare there is quite a lot of substance and alcohol abuse. Through yoga I have been taught to be aware of wellbeing and to be a giver of positive energy, so that’s what I do. “
Tinashe was told by doctors as a young boy that we would never be able to walk again, due to an illness he had contracted. Slowly, through sheer determination and discipline, Tinashe regained his ability to first stand, then walk and lastly move. This experience of restricted movement and the accompanying frustrations inspired him to dance. He is Zimbabwe’s first black male yoga instructor, a successful dance choreographer, a preforming artist in music, acting and dance. Tinashe is a graduate of the Africa Yoga Project and the Dance Trust Zimbabwe.
