Smile for Tine Mataz
– founder of the As I Am Foundation
“I like the saying that says “we can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone. ” Tine Mataz.
Tine formed As I Am Foundation to reach to out those living with misunderstood illnesses or circumstances that leave them ostracised or in difficult circumstances. ‘Talk Period’ a project of the foundation, aims to demystify menstruation, providing education, understanding and sanitary-wear. A secondary project up-skills vulnerable woman and girls with practical, money generating knowledge and qualifications in Highfield, Epworth and Budiriro. The project is also working with orphans from Harare Children’s Home about to turn 18 to ensure the transitional phase after leaving state provided shelter is as smooth and successful as possible.
Tine, after suffering from endometriosis for years without a diagnosis, has began to manage the disease and her pain. She is enrolled in a distance learning degree in Physiology and Community in Heath through UNISA.
