Gilbert Makanha barely needs an introduction. Although you may never have met or spoken with Gilbert, if you have driven down College Road he has probably brought a smile to your face. From sun up till sundown Gilbert sings his songs, whistles his tunes and dances his salesman gig, easing the frustrations of many a passing motorist. His positive approach toward daily life reminded us of Maya Angelou’s quote – “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” He has been selling airtime since 2010 – thats six years of smiles! Gilbert was nominated by numerous people (including Nellie English who is over the half way point on her run to Victoria Falls) as a infallible example for the chasing smiles challenge.
