How many times have you made a New Year’s resolution and not kept that resolution beyond January? Ah like that time I said I would give up alcohol – completely. This resolution did not even allow for a cold one as the sun went down or a smooth red with a delicious steak. Yup I was setting my self up for failure and disappointment with that one. Well, I can say with pride (and a huge smile) that Bad Rabbit Studios met the goals that were set at the beginning of 2015. In this first year of its operation, I wanted to grow the company into something robust, meaningful and ultimately sustainable. Yes, I am still a one-man-band (along with the very much needed help of my girlfriend Jo). Each and every moment that carries the Bad Rabbit hallmark is one that has been scrutinised and edited by myself; Bad Rabbit is far better established than it was this time last year and I do believe Bad Rabbit Studios is a relative success. As far as wishing to create an innate meaningfulness within Bad Rabbit, all you have to do is peek behind the door as a couple views their wedding highlights video for the first time to know that. Robust. I think so. Meaningful. Yes. Tick and tick. When I say sustainable, I mean that I wanted for Bad Rabbit to support my dreams and desires as a creative individual and to make a living whilst doing that. Sure, I am not ‘sipping on Cristal, drivin’ a Lamborghini’ but I am more than happy with my Toyota Runx (it is very economical) and besides, I prefer the taste of beer anyway.
Looking ahead to 2016, I want to go on a BIG expedition this coming year – like a tough, entrenched, endurance type, mother adventure to create my first major documentary. But if on the cusp of 2017, I can look back and feel that Bad Rabbit has grown as much as it has this year, then I am winning.
My ultimate goal is for Bad Rabbit to expand beyond myself, to give other aspiring film-makers in Zimbabwe the chance to bring a film to life and maybe not any time soon, maybe not even in the next 3 or 5 years, but, with the right circumstances, hard work, dedication and a little bit of good luck, I would love to show a Bad Rabbit Studios film to international audiences. Here’s to 2016!
